Organic SEO and Internet marketing

Much more than placing a few keywords into META tags, your Web site pages need to be optimized to be search engine friendly for your particular keywords and keyword phrases. The J Howard Company has the expertise to do it correctly with your goals in mind.

It is not necessary to flood your Web pages with excessive use of keywords, but with regard to search engine optimization, it is helpful to use keywords as often as needed. For clarification and precision in your information, visitors to your Web site will not tolerate excessive and redundant use of words that become counterproductive. Visitors want information quickly and concisely.

Your keywords need to be in your title, the first headline, in the first 20 words or so of the first paragraph, preferably near the beginning of the sentences, and among your Web content. Your headline should be under 70 characters whenever possible, to avoid being cropped short when indexed for particular keywords.

Usually the first sentence will be in bold typeface and about 160 characters or less, or the keywords will be in bold. This is to draw more attention to the content for the search engine and make it easy to read the notice when the listing is rendered from the keyword search. Keywords or keyword phrases in the first sentence should have a hyperlink to other pages or resources to further increase the page ranking of the Web page.

When building the content for pages, either new or based on a client's existing press releases, web content etc., keep in mind:

  • Use 500 words or more of content for articles and press releases. 300 words or so work well for landing pages and Web pages. Search engines require content and lots of it, but the content on the page should be focused on a particular subject matter incorporating two to three popular keyword phrases.
  • Good Information - Quality is equally important so make sure to provide relevant information to the company or product.
  • Referenced content - Content should not exist in a vacuum, and search engines give importance to content that is referenced (linked to) by other Web sites. Add breadth and depth to your content by linking.
  • Source of content - Search engines use various techniques to evaluate the source of content. This includes not only the site that it is presented on but the length of time the content has existed on the Web. Add content consistently, but not too often.
  • Don't manipulate results - For example, don't update your content twice daily in order to reach top rankings. Google will see this and start filtering the manipulated results to exclude them.
